A BUSHRANGER OF AUSTRALIAN MUSIC

About Johnny

Johnny is just a fair dinkum bushman with two passions; music and conservation. Growing up on a family sheep & cattle farm in South Australia, his earliest music influences were artists like Slim Dusty, Lee Kernaghan, Adam Brand, Tex Morton and Johnny Cash. In Johnny’s early teens, he discovered cassettes and CDs of his father’s Rock N Roll and Heavy Metal that resulted in his first band. In his late teens, Johnny left for Ireland where the traditional Irish music, culture and heritage influenced his composition even further. This unusual and unique blend helped to shape Johnny’s unique style of playing as well as versatility in genres.

Since Johnny started playing instruments, he also started composing music of his own. At this stage, he has written 7 albums and several singles of genres like Rock N Roll, Country, Blues, Heavy Metal and Symphony Orchestra. Composed all instruments, recorded at home and now he is ready to blast them to the world.

Aside from music, Johnny is a hardcore conservationist and Zoologist. His life has been dedicated to saving the world’s biodiversity since the day he could walk and so, catch his first lizard. At the age of 15, Johnny not only joined his first local rock band but also eagerly volunteered in Adelaide Zoo. The following decade he spent working and volunteering for zoological and conservation organisations in Australia, as well as overseas. The excitement of the danger, mystery, action and rugged horizons led to several zoological expeditions to uncharted or extremely dangerous regions of the world where Johnny faced dangerous wildlife, isolation, perilous terrain, hostile tribes or unexploded mines and bombs. Upon his return to Australia, Johnny has undertaken crocodile research in Northern Australia for about 8 years. His dedication to learn more about the ecology of these modern-day dinosaurs was more than obvious. For 8 years, Johnny retreated to the bush, living off the land, owning only an old ute, dinghy, rifle, army duffle bag, swag and of course, a guitar. Catching barramundi and hunting pigs for food, learning about the beauty and harshness of the Northern Australian outback and living with the crocodiles. The last 2 years up north, he ran a small business with a couple of his mates on wildlife & crocodile tours. These ‘’never-never safaris’’ were to convey a message of conservation and respect to the bush. It consisted of crocodile tours, reptile demonstrations, wildlife bush tours and songs & stories by a crocodile catcher around the campfire.

If there is one thing Johnny loves the most, that would be his home – Australia. But if there was a heart to this home, South Australia would most certainly take the spot. After being gone for many a year, Johnny returned back to the land of his heart – South Australia. Rambling from the north, through the desert like a bushranger or a travelling jackaroo working on cattle and sheep stations and living off the land.

Upon his return to South Australia, Johnny literary walked into the flames. The horrific 2019-2020 bushfires in South Australia soon began to scorch our beautiful land. Johnny joined up immediately and went on fighting the fires and rescuing wildlife. After the fires were under control, Johnny joined a bunch of musicians and started raising money for bushfire recovery. This magnificent team effort succeeded in raising over $64,000.

By growing up in the land of drought and fire, Johnny knows how harsh the bush can be and so after raising money for bushfire recovery, he also volunteered for drought relief. Playing music on district days, helping on hay runs or giving a helping hand to farmers that were struggling in the drought.

And finally, after rambling on around the South Australian bush for several years, Johnny has undertaken his largest project so far and currently is establishing a large non-profit, conservation and educational organisation in order to stop the current mass extinction, restore biodiversity and conserve the future.
